The Gospel: The Good News of Jesus Christ
The gospel is the good news of what Jesus has done to reconcile sinners to God. Here’s the big picture:
- God Created Us. The one true and holy God made us in His image to know and enjoy Him (Genesis 1:26–28).
- We Rebelled. But we sinned and separated ourselves from God (Genesis 3; Romans 3:23).
- God Sent a Rescuer. In His love, God sent His Son, Jesus, to be our King and Savior. He came to rescue us—not just from our circumstances, but from our greatest enemy: our sin (Psalm 2; Luke 1:67–79).
- Jesus Accomplished Our Salvation. Jesus lived a perfect life and died on the cross in our place, fulfilling God’s law and taking the punishment for our sin. He rose again from the dead, proving that God accepted His sacrifice and that His wrath was satisfied (Mark 10:45; John 1:14; Hebrews 7:26; Romans 3:21–26; Acts 2:24; Romans 4:25).
- We Must Respond. Now, Jesus calls everyone to repent of their sins and trust in Him alone for forgiveness. When we do, we are born again and given eternal life with God (Acts 17:30; John 1:12; John 3:16).
That’s the gospel, good news for all who believe.
A Simple Summary: God. Man. Christ. Response.
- God. God is the holy Creator of all things. He is worthy of all worship and will judge sin (Genesis 1:1; 1 John 1:5; Revelation 4:11; Romans 2:5–8).
- Man. All people, though created good, are now sinful by nature. We are born separated from God, hostile toward Him, and under His judgment (Genesis 1:26–28; Psalm 51:5; Romans 3:23; Ephesians 2:1–3).
- Christ. Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man, lived without sin, died in the place of sinners to bear God’s wrath, and rose again to give eternal life to all who trust in Him (John 1:1; 1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 7:26; Romans 3:21–26; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Corinthians 15:20–22).
- Response. God commands everyone to repent and believe in Christ for salvation (Mark 1:15; Acts 20:21; Romans 10:9–10).
“If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” Romans 10:9–10
God promises that when you place your faith in Jesus, you are brought into a restored relationship with your Creator, a relationship that begins now and lasts forever. Through faith, we’re given the assurance of His presence today and the hope of eternal life with Him.
